Editor program's Note: This story was earlier published happening Feb. 4. It has been updated to reflect the new status of Viva Learning.

Microsoft has announced Viva voc, a new "employee experience platform" that integrates with Microsoft Teams. If your company uses Teams, chances are that you'll see Viva, along with some of its more than familiar features like Topics and Insights, presently.

Microsoft already uses Teams as a launch area for apps like Word and PowerPoint, plus shared resources on OneDrive and SharePoint. Inside Viva voc are features that Microsoft is calling Oral exam Connections, Oral Insights, Viva Learning, and Viva Topics. Topics is available today; Insights is open in preview, and Insights in private preview. As of April 26, Microsoft has pushed Oral Learning live into public preview.

Microsoft designed Connections for employee interactions, and Topics to allow employees to seek out answers from their colleagues. If they can't help, Encyclopedism is designed to provide company-designed and external online courses and videos to help proscribed. Finally, there's Insights—the management tool that keeps dog of what's working and what isn't, a respin of sorts of the controversial Productiveness Make tool. We'll describe them in more item below.

Microsoft is orienting Oral examination as a tool that takes the pandemic, and its changes in the workplace, fountainhead on. Pre-pandemic, Microsoft had already said that online collaboration was the next step in the development of someone employees practical on individual documents like Word and PowerPoint. It past tweaked its messaging once the general made remote work a realness. Now, Microsoft's trying to establish Viva as a kind of online residential area hub—a place for new employees to learn about the party, its policies, and World Health Organization their coworkers are and what they screw about, much like the intranets some companies already maintain.

Microsoft sees Oral every bit the online manifestation of an office employees can't physically chew the fat justly now. "We need to stop intelligent of cultivate as a base, and start cerebration about how to uphold culture, connect employees, and harness humanlike inventiveness in a hybrid world," Jared Spataro, corporate vice Chief Executive for Microsoft 365, aforementioned during a pre-recorded briefing video for reporters.

The Microsoft Oral exam Connections fertilize.

Microsoft has tried and true to make Teams as "sticky" as it can beryllium, bundling more and more around information technology in a beseech to make IT a critical part of the workplace. (This fall, Teams' springy daily users climbed to 115 million, Microsoft same.) Encouraging users to initiate their day with Viva voc is part of that.

Oral examination Insights

Viva Insights has three different views. Employees will see a dashboard that encourages them to take time and agenda breaks, as healed as meeting-free blocks for "adjusted learning." Managers will also take up their own dashboard, as will company execs. It's the latter that may worry some, arsenic IT appears Microsoft is still aggregating employee work on habits.

Employees will see something like this dashboard inside the Microsoft Viva voc Insights page.

Microsoft appears to have likewise taken over nisus to avoid the bad sense of taste its Productiveness Tally left in some mouths. Though Productivity Score —and, aside extension, Insights—was intentional to monitor how effectively employees were using Microsoft's tools, stressed-out employees worried that the tool could be old to track them individually. Yet, example screenshots of the Microsoft Viva voc tool still show, in aggregate, how many workers are putt in more than an Eight-hour workday—something that could be used every bit a monitor to manage work/life balance…or encouragement that workers needed to work more.

Still, Microsoft took pains to line that it doesn't monitor taxonomic category workers. "Microsoft Viva uses accumulation, Delaware-designation, and mathematical process concealment," according to Microsoft, in describing Oral examination Insights. "This means personal insights are panoptic just to the employee, while insights for managers and leaders are mass and de-identified aside default to protect individual privacy."

Viva Learning

Microsoft said enquiry shows that workers will stay with a company longer if it furthers their possess domestic development. Viva Learning is the portal to come just that.

Oral Eruditeness, however, also appears to cost an easy way for Microsoft or its partners to resell services like online coursework, especially with its LinkedIn subsidiary. Microsoft wish nominate available "microcourses" and other classes from LinkedIn Erudition, Microsoft Learn, trainings from leading content providers like Skillsoft, Coursera, Pluralsight, and edX, plus your own company's online tutorials and unusual info.

Viva Topics

It's probably no surprise that Topics is rolling out today—we've seen Microsoft try to connect employees to one another every the fashio back to 2015's Delve, with similar features added to Outlook.

Microsoft Oral's Topics feed will candid a tease…

Topics is designed to admit an governance to cover the corporate jargon. If there's an unfamiliar acronym or special jut that might not be familiar to an employee, Topics is designed to provide a topic card that appears when an employee hovers their cursor complete it, and so links to a ad hoc topic page when they click for Thomas More information. Microsoft said that Topics is designed for companies to link to their personal data, but too touch base to partners.

…and so practice down into a Topics page.

Microsoft hasn't obstructed adding new features to Microsoft Teams, and Microsoft Viva appears poised to also take in many smug in the future, too. For a multi-billion-dollar mark company, Microsoft has pivoted hard to online collaboration, and Microsoft business enterprise customers will be along for the ride.
